Episode 11 Best Move/Worst Move

Every Thursday on FSG Blog, we will be posting at least three “Best Moves” and three “Worst Moves” from the latest episode. It’s up to YOU to vote for what you consider to be the best and the worst move. If you disagree with the three options for best or worst moves, then select “Other” and then write an explanation in the Comments section below of the move that you consider to be the best or the worst. The results for this poll will be posted every Monday.

Michael’s idol bluff

Michael showed that even when you have your back against the wall and don’t seem to have any cards to play, you can always make up a lie to try and save yourself. He effectively lied to Kellyn and convinced her he had another hidden immunity idol, which caused some chaos in the group of five. If Domenick hadn’t seen through it, the plan might have worked. Regardless, Michael never gave up when he found himself on the chopping block time and time again, and he went out swinging.

Donathan playing his idol

It looked as if Donathan was going to play his idol on Jenna, which would have gone down as one of the worst moves of the episode. However, Donathan wised up and played his idol on himself instead. Although Jenna would have been voted out even if Donathan hadn’t played his idol, Donathan made the right choice because he knew he was vulnerable. It’s always a good idea to play an idol instead of getting voted out with it in your pocket (as evidenced by many of the “cursed” idols this season).

Kellyn using her extra vote

Kellyn used her extra vote to vote for Laurel a second time instead of voting with Michael, as both Dom and Wendell did. This was a smart play because had Michael played an idol, Kellyn and Wendell (with one vote each) would have been the two targets of a revote. Although Michael didn’t have an idol, Kellyn wisely used her advantage to potentially save herself and her allies.

Kellyn falling for Michael’s idol bluff

While Domenick saw through Michael’s bluff, Kellyn fell for it hard. Sure, Michael’s lie was convincing, but Kellyn should have asked to see the idol (as Domenick suggested). Instead, she just believed wholeheartedly that he had the idol instead of trying to dig for more information first. Kellyn keeps saying that she trusts her “gut” in this game, but her gut is becoming increasingly unreliable, as evidenced by her choosing to believe Michael’s lie as well as her refusal to believe Desiree’s betrayal in last week’s episode.

Jenna’s bad performance at tribal council

Jenna may have gotten Donathan to play his idol on her if she had put on a better performance at tribal council. Instead of acting desperate and helpless, which would have potentially garnered sympathy from Donathan, Jenna was abrupt with Probst when he asked her a question and then immediately said she wanted to vote. This probably communicated to Donathan that she thought she was safe, since she didn’t even attempt to fight for herself at tribal. Although she was anxious to blindside Donathan, she should have at least pretended like she was afraid of going home.

Kellyn’s paranoia at tribal council

Kellyn was an emotional wreck at tribal council. Obviously she was stressed, but the paranoia she demonstrated only served to put the rest of her alliance on edge. As a result, Dom and Wendell whispered back and forth to each other and didn’t even include her in the conversation. It looked as though they may have actually debated whether to vote her out or not. Luckily for her, they decided to vote Michael. However, Kellyn’s paranoid behavior is starting to sow distrust in her Naviti alliance.
